Welcome Back!
Hope everyone had a fabulous summer! And that all our families are ready for
our “Green” Journey through UPE this year! I wanted to take this time to
highlight a few of the changes we will see throughout our H&S this school year.
1) Each family will continue to receive a UPE Directory. However, in
accordance with SFASD “Green Initiative” and my very protective instincts over
our volunteer-base, each family will edit or enter their demographic
information, volunteer interest and child(ren)’s teacher information into PTO
Manager (our web-based database). This database is user-friendly and this
should take only a few minutes of your time. Please see reverse of this letter
for instructions.
2) Some fundraisers have changed this year due to volunteer leadership. If I,
as President of our H&S, had a parent who was willing to organize and run a
fundraiser, I was willing to support this endeavor. On the other hand, some
fundraisers were eliminated from our budget. Several of these absences are due
to lack of volunteer leadership, as well as (I believe) boredom. Some of these
fundraisers have been running for years and since it was very challenging to
find chair people (but not as challenging to fill new fundraisers), I believe
our families would like a little change! Change can be good!
3) This school year each family will be responsible for the purchase of their
child(ren)’s Field Trip T-shirt. Due to economics, the H&S turned these
t-shirts into a fundraiser for our Pond/Outdoor Learning Environment. Our pond
was installed a couple of years ago; however, much grading and landscaping is
still required to bring this project to full fruition. This work requires much
funding (almost twice our annual budget). Therefore, we are turning over the
profits from these t-shirt sales directly to the UPE Friends of the Pond Fund.
All are welcome to help the Pond Fund! Adult and child sizes are available – be
sure to visit UPE’s Front Entrance, sample sizes are there for viewing. Please
utilize the attached T-Shirt Order Form and return to school by Thursday,
September 2nd. In order to receive the maximum profit, UPEHSA will submit one
large order in early September.
